EUROPEAN COMMISION ENERGY, CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGIES
EU policies and the Green Deal aim to protect the environment and biodiversity, minimize risks to human health, and promote the transition to a circular economy. The European Union’s environment policies aim to protect, preserve and improve the environment for present and future generations, and promote sustainable development. Taking action against climate change is essential for a safe and prosperous future, in Europe and globally. This is why the EU is committed to becoming the world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050. Energy policy is critical for European competitiveness and security and to achieving climate neutrality. It is a shared competence between the EU and its member countries, defined in Article 194 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
