Teresina, Piauí, Brazil

The state of Piauí will host the main global discussions on a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable energy future by hosting the International Conference on Renewable Energy Technology - CITER 2024. The CITER 2024 will take place from June 3rd to 5th, 2024, at the Teresina Convention Center (PI), in a hybrid format (in-person and virtual), with live simultaneous translation. The central theme of the event will be "Renewable Energy Technologies in the Context of a Just and Sustainable Global Energy Transition".

CITER 2024 aims to promote dialogue among the public and private sectors of society, academia, civil society, and international organizations to share knowledge about the latest technologies and innovations, with a special emphasis on the role of green hydrogen in the global energy transition.

The Conference also intends to raise awareness among society about the consequences of advancing climate change and to discuss the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 and the targets of the Paris Agreement.

CITER 2024, in Teresina (PI), will foster the dissemination of knowledge, exchange of experiences, generation of new businesses, networking, promotion of innovative initiatives related to renewable energy technologies, and the articulation of public policies focused on clean energy and sustainability.

CITER 2024 is co-organized by the Government of the State of Piauí and several national and international organizations:

- Government of the State of Piauí
- Investment Agency of Piauí - Investe Piauí

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global agenda adopted during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015, consisting of 17 goals and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030. This agenda includes global actions in the areas of poverty eradication, food security, agriculture, health, education, gender equality, reduction of inequalities, energy, water and sanitation, sustainable patterns of production and consumption, climate change, sustainable cities, protection and sustainable use of oceans and terrestrial ecosystems, inclusive economic growth, infrastructure, industrialization, among others.

Piauí stands out as an exceptionally favorable environment for renewable energies due to a unique combination of geographical and climatic factors. With vast land areas available and predominantly sunny weather throughout the year, the state presents ideal conditions for large-scale solar energy generation. Furthermore, the abundance of steady winds along extensive plains and coastal areas makes Piauí a privileged destination for wind energy production. These natural characteristics provide a solid foundation for the sustainable development of solar and wind parks, positioning Piauí as a leader in the transition to clean and renewable energy sources.

In addition to its potential in solar and wind energy, Piauí also stands out for its progressive vision and investments in emerging technologies, such as green hydrogen.

Wind power potential: The state boasts the third-largest wind power potential in the country, with 44% of Enel's projects in Brazil located within its territory.

Largest wind farm in Latin America: The Lagoa dos Ventos Wind Farm, situated in the municipalities of Lagoa do Barro do Piauí, Queimada Nova, and Dom Inocêncio, is the largest wind farm in Latin America.

Largest solar plant in South America: The São Gonçalo do Gurguéia solar plant is the largest in South America, with a production capacity of 1,500 GW per year.

Fourth position in residential solar energy: Teresina, the capital of Piauí, holds the fourth position among Brazilian cities in terms of solar energy generation for residential consumption.
