As one of the Directorates-General of the European Commission, Eurostat falls under the responsibility of the Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification. Eurostat produces European statistics to support EU policy development and monitoring by providing the data that users need. They work closely with EU countries to define, develop, test, and agree on common methodologies to ensure data comparability across the EU. Data collection and validation is mostly carried out by national statistical authorities in accordance with EU regulations and standards. Following the secure transmission of data, Eurostat performs additional quality checks and compiles the data into aggregated European-level statistics.
